King Kong is a 1933 landmark black-and-white monster film about a gigantic gorilla named “Kong” and how he is captured from a remote lost prehistoric island and brought to civilization against his will. The film was made by RKO and was originally written for the screen by Ruth Rose and James Ashmore Creelman, based on a concept by Merian C. Cooper. A major on-screen credit for Edgar Wallace, sharing the story with Cooper, was unearned, as Wallace became ill soon after his arrival in Hollywood and died without writing a word, but Cooper had promised him credit. A novelization of the screenplay actually appeared in 1932, a year before the film, adapted by Delos W. Lovelace, and contains descriptions of scenes not present in the movie. The film was directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, starred Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot, and is notable for Willis O’Brien’s ground-breaking stop-motion animation, Max Steiner’s musical score and Fay Wray’s performance as the ape’s love interest. A Gwynedd park has been given a make-over thanks to help from North Wales Police and local volunteers. Organised by the force, Millennium Park in Penrhyndeudraeth saw scores of people including police officers and staff, PCSOs, cadets and local school children roll up their sleeves to help do their bit for the local area. The aim of the day, held yesterday (Thursday 16th July) was to give the park a spring-clean which included clearing litter from the lagoon, turning over the flower beds and planting shrubs, installing a drainage system and fixing the spring which had fallen into disrepair following vandalism. Sergeant Fiona Armstrong-Brown, who is the Volunteer Co-ordinator for North Wales Police said: The day was organised as part of our Force Volunteer Scheme, of which we are actively recruiting volunteers to join us. People from all communities are encouraged to give their time and enthusiasm to enhance the service provided by the police. Volunteers can help with a variety of roles such as assisting their Neighbourhood Policing teams, quality of service, administration and specialist roles from tutoring employees in learning Welsh to restorative justice volunteers. Working in partnership with Business in the Community and with assistance from local Councillor Dewi Lewis, Millennium Park was identified as a project that would be of benefit to the local community.
